While in India, he noticed that malnourished Indian women were giving birth to healthy babies, and after doing ample amounts of research, he discovered that the HCG hormone allowed the body to use fat stores to feed a growing fetus. Soon after this discovery, he found that the HCG hormone worked the same way in the body of a person that is not pregnant.
The HCG hormone, which is human chorionic gonadotropin, tells the body to burn fat for energy and nutrition in the event of a nutrient deficiency. For this reason, it can provide rapid weight loss for both men and women when the protocol is followed correctly. While on the HCG Diet, patients must only consume around 500 calories per day, and they can only eat specific lean meats, low sugar fruits, and fresh vegetables. Usually, men and women on the diet lose around one pound per day, and most people lose around thirty pounds on one course of the HCG Diet.
Because a few thousand calories of fat are being released on the HCG Diet, most people do not feel hungry. Some people have argued that the low calorie diet is the reason for the dramatic weight loss; however, if this were the case, a person would be miserable with hunger on a diet with so few calories. Without the HCG hormone, the body would consume lean muscle instead of fat, and several side effects, such as hair loss, mood swings, and food cravings would occur.
